... 99,6%

Several levels are already at 100%. For example, downtown has required about 200 additional fixes to solve and now is very difficult to find new problems XD When I loaded the original map to make comparative screenshots I've taken some screenshots of common bugs.

I have 3 new round manholes (I love them), I bring a showcase of manhole covers. All original first and then all of mine. The one with stones around is for stone roads.

I also tweaked a bit the green metal container (3.0 version only has hires signs). Created bumb and displacement for burnt asphalt decal. Tombstones in the catacombs and some other things.

I have a new giant graffiti I'm thinking where to put. It took a lot compose pictures and cut all the pieces. So far I've stuck on the first wall of downtown. On that wall I've tested a new bricks texture that I like, I use a purple tinted specular layer. This bricks texture is the first candidate for common bricks in all levels. But VRAM is my enemy now.

I have a little graffiti tag, I need help to decide which (if there is one that is not horrible) is better. Last shot.

Screenshots from editor.

  1. On the topic of fixes:

I'd like to know, are those "flaws" fixed?
    They can be somewhat distracting.

    1. I can reproduce those glitches only modifying graphics options from game menu after configure mod from MaLDoHD configurator (mod info says that it's not recommended). There are some cvars stored in profile that causes those problems if game tries to load a graphic setup while you're using MaLDoHD config files). I can't reproduce with a clean install and 3.0b version. Those objects are sensible (game bug related) to show incorrect parallax if you change ingame options, and then they are invisible. It's a game bug and not mod bug, mod only activates parallax in these materials. As said before, I can't reproduce those problems doing the correct steps while installing and configuring the mod.

    1. What is easy? You only need to click in recommended settings and then quit and play.

    2. I really like the look and layout of the current menu. Excellent to as you hover over the options it will give a description as to what the particular option does. Good stuff in my opinion.

  3. I really like the new brick texture and the giant graffity too. new manhole look great !

In the last picture, I like your name written in many colors ( green, yellow and orange ), so the one on the top left of the picture.

Can't wait, playing crysis 2 whitout your mod is now impossible for me :)

Instead of percentage system Maldo, can you give a rough idea how long left before release?

    1. I'd say at the rate he is currently going, it'll probably be another month at best.. But god damn.. Nothing short of unbelievable! Clearly Maldo you've turned crysis 2 into the best looking game EVER!

  6. Maldo, another great update.

Now tell me if I am crazy. The purple specular reminds me a lot of the original parallax occlusion mapping preview from the Unreal Engine 3 showcase in 2004. What inspired you to use purple? It looks great!

    1. No, looking for a while some walls and graffitis a few days ago I saw some kinds of paint that have a component that produces speculars of another color, sometimes complementary. I like the effect.

  7. You say VRAM is your enemy now...what GPU do you have? I'm worried that my GTX460 won't be able to handle it :/

    ReplyDelete
  8. Well, if it is only 1GB of VRAM I can see how this MOD would eat that up in no time. At least two Gigs. Maybe it's time for all of us who appreciate all the hard work MaLDo is doing and pitch in a little bit so he can get another GFX card? I'll start with a donation. Come on guys. If enough of us chip in he can get a damn good GFX card. The least we can do and show our appreciation.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Loveing it. Maldo did you get my email a while back about a GPU?

    ReplyDelete
  10. i thought he has a GTX 480 which has 1.5 GB vram. if he's having problems the mod is best run with 2 GB vram or more.

    ReplyDelete
  11. First i was worried about 1.5GB limitation that MALDO has, but thinking better 1.5GB it's perfect. We must have some room (for 2GB cards) to another MODs, antialiasing, higher resolution, etc.

Maldo, about your comment about VRAM limitation. what is your game configuration? (resolution, antiliasing, etc)

Hace rato que es hora de una nueva versión, después si quiere, que lo mejore aun más el tremendo trabajo que ya hizo... Lo de no me debe nada es verdad, pero fuí donador, así que como mínimo puedo opinar del tema. Saludos!

  13. Hi Maldo, I've noticed that while using your mod it seems to add/increase the object flickering bug that the game has. I haven't played Crysis 2 for a while and just freshly installed it a few days ago. So I haven't tested it thoroughly but I don't seem to get the distant object flicker as often (if at all)with the mod off. Have you noticed this mate? Otherwise this mod is absolutely fantastic. I wish I could contribute somehow. This mod is a work of art, much much much kudos to you my friend!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yeah,I have the same issue, although the mentioned flicker is very slight, almost unnoticeable, and generally appears at random...

At first I thought my GPU's OC may be slightly unstable, but after more thorough testing,it seems the issue lies with the game.Still,I don't think this is Maldo's fault, game modding in general can cause a few minor glitches here and there...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've done some further digging, From what I can workout its when you have the game running in dx11 the flicker occurs. When I run it in dx9, the objects don't appear to flicker except very very occasionally.

      Delete
    2. Z-fighting, known as flickering, is when textures are placed on the same layer level on an object and are competing for dominance of which texture should be displayed. This causes the flicker between the two textures. Different LOD levels can introduce different textures introducing increased flicker when at different distances from the object.

Why it is in DX11 and not DX9 is probably due to increased texture conflicts introduced with Parallax mapping along and tessellation.

From what Maldo has shown, he has put much consideration in to addressing these texture conflicts by removing conflicting textures or changing their levels. It isn't an easy task however, as it has to be done on a case by case basis.

  20. Take your time, Maldo. An update would be nice, but if you're not at 99.7% yet, I'm sure it's for a good reason.

Other people: this is Maldo's hobby. It's incredibly polished, detailed, and thorough. And it's FREE. He's also a family man, and that can have serious demands.

  21. This is a little thing, and I don't know if you can fix it, but in Seat of Power, sometimes the runoff water is moving uphill - mostly on broken slabs of concrete. It's such a great effect in that rainy level, but seeing it defy gravity is a little silly.

  22. Hello MaLDo, I just have a question for you :)
I just saw this awesome mod, you already know it: it's the Quality Mod from ShonE.

    https://sites.google.com/site/qualitymod/classroom-pictures

Will you integrate the last version (1.91) with the final release of your mod? Is it possibile for you to do that, or is it ShonE himself that has to compile another installer for his mod, to run with yours as well?

Thank you so much, let me know what you think about it :)

    Best regards.
    Sergio.

    1. I think the rotation water you talk it's an inherent effect on deferred decals over a surface with rain effect applied. If you take a screenshot of an affected place I can see in detail.

      Delete
    2. I guess it doesn't really show up in screenshots - maybe I'll post a video, but you can head to this level, crouch down and see for yourself. It affects almost every surface in the level - even grass...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Melvin don't be sad :)
I have 1gb too, but this mod run quite ok on my gpu. On HD6870, ultra, v-sync off and 1080p I have average fps >30 and the game is playable.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Im moding skyrim for my country and i make two versions 1gb vram and 2 gb vram. Why you dont doo the same like i doo put in the MALDO config tool two way options for the textures if is possible.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think this game does something to prevent thrashing. I play at 900p with this mod maxed out, and my card's 1GB VRAM is always full. When I hook my PC up to my 1080p TV and play, the framerate drops from an average of 45 to 32, and the occlusion culled objects take slightly longer to reappear when they come into view, but no stutters. I know this mod can suck up almost 2GB VRAM at 1080p, but I don't really notice anything besides lower fps with my HD 6870 at that resolution.

  33. Hey Maldo, how hard would it be to take off the object highlighting that happens when you look at a usable object? Cars, cans, barrels, guns, trash, and ammo crates don't need to be highlighted whenever you look at them. I know a LOT of people would be relieved, and it will make the game look more realistic (which this mod is trying to do.)

Also, could you put in a setting to turn off the suit's voice when changing modes? Very distracting.

  39. I appreciate all the hard work Maldo has put into this mod, I really do but if he doesn't up his game and get it finished and released soon people are going to lose interest in this and all his hard work will more or less be in vain because people won't even give a toss about the game anymore.. Look at ice enhance gta4 for example. Great mod, but be the time of final release hardly anyone gives two shit about it anymore

  40. Hello Maldo, is it possible for you to release one of the earlier levels you fully completed? This way we test it [reporting possible bugs to fix before release?] and.. calming those who can't wait.

  41. Another apparent glitch - There's no water in the middle of the Semper Fi or Die level, where you drive along the broken highway before you meet up with the marines and fight the dropships. You can look down and see the city below, underwater, and you can shoot at it and see splashes, but there's no visible water. Don't know if there's anything that can be done.

    Looking forward to an update!

  45. Hey Maldo, is it possible you can give us an update? I really hope you have not given up on this mod as people are saying as it is the best mod ever, really fantastic and it would be too much of your time and effort to throw all that work away. And above poster is right, the more time passes, the more people lose interest, especially with other games and Crysis 3 around the corner.Your work deserves a large audience but that audience is maybe getting less and less?

I think you need to find a balance between doing an excellent job as you have done but not getting too obsessed with the little details perhaps? Otherwise you could potentially spend another couple of years fixing everything you perceive to be broken like little lines not lining up here and there.

Remember, the mod is to be played and enjoyed by people and it looks like everything you've done so far will succeed in doing that. 99% of us don't care about lines of two walls not lining up or keyholes being too small. And if you want to use this mod to showcase your abilities to potential employers, then you have already done that to a very high level.

I think time is to release now Maldo!
