New road texture in FDR

Hi, FDR (Road Rage) level has very long roads where we can drive the armored vehicle. The game uses here the same texture as the rest of levels, with parallax disabled. This is one of the levels with more flickering problems on the roads. I wanted to use a different texture to the street of the second half of this level. As an area with high probability to travel into vehicle (player don't look the texture at close range). Lastnight I took a few road pictures from cgtextures, I have combined and modified to make the result seamless. I wanted a texture very long, so I created an image of 2K wide x 4K long, and then transform to 2Kx2K. This involves stretching all the ways that use such material but adds variety to medium and long distances. Then I did the bump map and the displacement map. I did a mask for various levels of bump detail. I created a new asphalt bump detail, but I'm wondering if using that or the original from crytek. I may need to adjust specular values a bit and maybe apply some blur to displacement map. The last area of the map will be traveled on foot. I will try to address the lack of resolution of asphalt texture with some decals at strategic points.

  2. Hy Maldo,
The textures you applied looks great from a technical point of view. But i think they gives the scene a more pronounced post-apocalyptic shade which clash with the look of the cars that appear almost new and with the story of the game which places the action after a recent alien invasion. Beside that I cant wait to play the game again with your awesome upgrades.
Lot of health and good luck from Romania

    1. In spain we have roads like that without alien invasion. I may reduce roughness a little, but I like the texture it provides variety between levels.

    2. I was also going to criticize the road roughness, but you just made a good point, so now I won't bother.

Got lots of respect for what you do, keep up the good work!

  4. Hi Maldo ! I have two questions for you.

    1. When we can download Maldo 3.0c ?
    2. What's your graphic card and how many fps you have in 1080p resolution ?

  5. Maldo, the new road textures do look excellent but I agree with 'anonymous from Romania' in that I don't know if the texture goes with the kind of smoother road you'd expect from a busy highway road. They look too rough and bumpy perhaps?

    1. Then imagine that is a very marginal coastal suburb of the city. XD

  6. Hello MaLDo, the new texture looks awesome! Don't listen to them, I like how it is different from all the other road textures in the game, well done! :)
Can't wait to see some screens with bump mapping and some parallax too, they actually look quite flat.
Other than that, they're perfect ;)

    Greetings from Italy :)

  7. Your work and initiative are amazing. Without doubt the best mod for Crysis 2!

Even so I feel compelled to criticize something. I found the resolution very low in curt distance. Lose a little variety in middle and long to not fall as much near resolution could be a better equilibrium point.

In comparison to your pristine textute work, these roads in close dont satisfies. It's your fault, we were spoiled. :-)

  8. I agree with those complaining. What maldo has to take into account when making the mod is to make it like it would look like in nyc in real life in person. Not what it looks like where he lives. Anyway lots of pictures online of nyc. Maldo you should do vehicle skins of real cars those cars and trains look nothing like nyc cars and trains, well only the taxi's but even they are off a bit. Plus these new taxi's just came out in nyc. Anyway good job on the mod looking really good.

  9. In last screen for example, you will never have a road that bumpy all the way. Maybe some spots of damage like that here and there but not the same damage for the whole length of the road. What do you think?

  10. I don`t think what peoples say here is aim to criticize or complain; more like to give you a feedback of your great work.
    Cheers !!!

  11. I've been in NYC and on the FDR, this is a bit overkill to be honest... the FDR speed limit is 40 if I remember right and driving that road would probably be horrible if not dangerous.

  12. I used to looking foward for the 3.0c version of this mod, but after this post, I´ll be thinking twice.

What I liked in this mod was the upgrade of textures without losing the original vision of the game. Calling this as "very marginal coastal suburb of the city" makes no sense. FDR is a well know location of NYC, and doing this kind of change removes all realism of the game.
