What happens with 4.0

Hi all, although it seems that I'm not doing anything, every day I spend some time with the mod. Sometimes only five minutes (open the editor, open photoshop and I have to close it) and sometimes I'm almost two hours at night. But whenever I go.

I know I said I needed a few more days, but 15 days are a few days, right?

The imminent arrival of Crysis 3 made me think MaLDoHD for Crysis 2 will make no sense soon, so I can not think it as something upgradeable. I have to release the final-final version with "almost" all I want to put inside, because surely no one want to use the mod after Crysis 3 release.

I have also seen releasing a beta is dangerous, because people do not want use it as "beta" but as a final version. So demanding patches, to play through all the game with a patched beta. Doing so has the risk that then they will not want to test the final version because they "already played all the mod".

Those days I don't write on the blog because writing and taking/reducind/uploading/linking screenshots requires spending time. And right now I do not have that time. If I have 15 minutes, I'd rather prefer spend it with the mod instead of writing for 10 minutes what I modded in 5.

I know there are many people who think this is getting longer too. It's true. But to understand it you have to understand what the mod is for me.

It's not a defined work, I have not a boss who has imposed me a deadline. I have no salary and I don't have fixed number of hours I can spend everyday. And most importantly, I do like to go for learning new things.

That means that, although I know that there are people waiting, my main goal is not to serve them. In doing so, this would not have been even half of what it is. And I want to be proud of the mod, I do not regret releasing anything by halves.

And I can hardly give a full stop because that means I'm going to stop enjoying the creation process. Another goal for the mod is performance. It's a must my computer have to run all the game at locked 60 fps using recomended settings (with SDAO, tesselation, parallax, real time reflexions, extreme shadows, ...).

Here are some screenshots. Most of them don't have the original version to compare (maybe I will add originals later). Only show a part of the new textures and changes in levels and some of them need a few little fixes before release.

For example, in this part into Battery Park level, I've added crashed cars, a van, more puddles, decals, etc.

  2. Hey Maldo, thanks again for your work with the Mod.
What for you the seek of know, means for the majority of us just a lot of fun. Thanks again for it.
I think that Crysis2 + MaldoHD will not get irelevant when crysis3 will be release. With your Mod, the whole creativity and the strive for perfection crysis 2 become to something much better. Maybe a Crysis2+++
And Crysis3 is for now just Crysis3.

      +1

Just like The Dark Knight does not get irrelevant upon the release of The Dark Knight Rises

  4. Glad to see you're making progress. Take your time, and don't let the complaints get to you. People (myself included) are very grateful for all the hard work you've put into this mod. It's by far the best looking game I've ever played when I load Maldohd.

  8. Amazing screenshots!.. regarding C2 Maldo mod is irrelevant after C3 is released, this is not true for me and many people who will wait for price drops/sales or just won't buy C3 at release time or just simply hate Origin.

i will wait for the perfect maldomod :)

  11. Maldo, release it after Crysis 3. There is a chance you might put Crytek to shame again.

  13. Hi Maldo :)

I'm not going to disrepect your work, it's awesome, but please please please publish a quickfix for semper fi only so we can play the current beta from start to finish. Don't worry, the mod will be played even when crysis 3 is out, no doubt (hell, look at black mesa vs Half-Life 2 release dates, great mods like yours are evergreens), but to me the current unplayable state of Maldo v4 just plain sucks. I tried copying the level from Maldo v3 and it didn't work for me...so again, triple please, publish a quick fix.

    kthxbye :)

    1. Dude... let the man work. If it really meant as much to you as you've been making it sound, you would have donated heartily by now. We all know you haven't, so stop whining.

I'm seriously considering a $50 donation just to ban your IP.

    3. Let me tell you a story: Once upon a time there was a mod in development called Black Mesa. It took the devs years to complete it, and i was fine with that because they didn't publish anything except a few screenshots every few years.
Maldo DID publish a beta, he hooked us up, and now it looks like he's locking himself in and polishing his mod step-by-step to make it perfect for him...and i'm perfectly fine with that too. But what upsets me is that he released the v4 Beta and apparently doesn't give support at all.
I can deal with every graphical glitch and annoyances, that's why it's beta after all, but this showstopper bug for semper fi is soo lame and unneccessary, Maldo should have made a quick fix the day he knew about it.
Both of you don't need to hold Maldo's dick, this is an open comment section and not a shiny-happy-people-in-wonderland place where every kind of criticism is forbidden.
Btw nice one about baning me for a $50 donation, you could do this as a business model. x-D

  14. I have to agree, fixing an issue as grave as the one that causes players to get stuck completely in the game should get priority and probably doesn't require that much work at all. Please, publish something, anything, only a few files that we all know you have lying around that allows us 4beta players to play through the campaign without ending up with a black screen when the next level should be loading. Learning that using MaldoHD 3.0 to overwrite the levels that cause the game to hang at a black screen was very, very hard, let alone still find a working link to get 3.0. Do this but also do take your time to finish V4 at your leisure, it is after all a hobby. ( a much appreciated and admired one at that!)

  15. I, for one, will still want this mod for Crysis 2. I'm interesting in getting into this game so I can play all the various mods being made for it, several of which are intentionally made to work *with* your mod! This is especially true now that the Crysis 2 SDK has been released. We should be seeing a LOT of new mods soon. So please don't give up on this.

Now to another important matter. I'd very much like to know if you have found a workaround so that your mod will work with the Origin version of the Maximum edition, which doesn't seem to like mods very much. From what I've read, it's only the Maximum/Origin version that's having the problem. Unfortunately, that's the one on sale and my chance to get in the door here, so if you have plans to address the issue I'd go ahead and grab it. Otherwise I'd have to wait for Steam's next big sale (probably next summer). :)

  18. Please release Maldo v4. People will still play Crysis 2 as they still play Crysis 1. Rygels Texture Mod for Crysis 1 is still used today, so I think your mod will also be used in the future. And it's amazing. The highest Texture Resolution I've ever seen.
