It is being really hard.

Tesselated roof and "bricks" with a lot of glitches
Parallax roof with bricks objects. Less polygons, no glitches.
Totally tesselated park walls
Only corners tesselated
I'm having a problem with tesselation and SSAO. Only actual fix I can fin to avoid glitches in enviroment map over some distant buildings is activate SSDO, but this reduces general performance to fix 2 specific problems. I will work a little more on it.
Beautifull <3
ReplyDeleteHow many texture have you modified actualy????
Isn't SSDO visually better anyway (for people who can afford the performance)? Because it's colour based ambient occlusion? Looks amazing, once again. Thank you for your efforts!
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind I do understand some people want high res tessellated textures and less fancy ambient occlusion for performance.
ReplyDelete@JayJapanB, maybe I don't explain it correctly. Activating Tesselation make glitches in some surfaces if SSDO is off. So, I need to activate SSDO to avoid tesselation glitches. Then, tesselation reduces performance above real requeriments because SSDO is demanding. But I'm searching a workaround. As always, I can't sleep peacefully leaving it as is. XD
ReplyDelete@Bigounet, a lot.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine Maldo wants his mod to be perfect and of course having obvious glitches doesn't feel right. If he can fix it then this could well be a perfect texture pack, but from the screenshots alone you would already say that. Exelent work and good luck!! :D
ReplyDelete@JB, true. Otherwise those glitches is not mod related, are in vanilla game. For that reason DX11 patch does NOT let you activate tesselation with SSDO off.
ReplyDelete@JB, I can force SSDO when Tesselation is activated in mod (actual version of Config utility does it) but I want offer more performance.
ReplyDeleteI have an incurable disease, your mod will bring me joy before I die. I only have 1 week to live. Maldo please don't let me down, por favor. :(
ReplyDeleteSe ven impresionantes Maldo, llevamos mucho tiempo esperando que finalices tu trabajo,pero... tómate tu tiempo para finalizar esta joya...sin palabras macho...Vaya crack!
ReplyDeleteTnx MALDO Really REALLY NICE JOB IM SO IMPRESS.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite game but i got ATI :(
Pls MALDO OPTIMIZE FOR ATI.Crytek Suck.
And see that meaby is i can help whit something.
Read this.

And remove Unnecessary geometric detail who slows down only ATI.
Unnecessary geometric detail slows down all GPUs, of course, but it just so happens to have a much larger effect on DX11-capable AMD Radeons than it does on DX11-capable Nvidia GeForces. The Fermi architecture underlying all DX11-class GeForce GPUs dedicates more attention (and transistors) to achieving high geometry processing throughput than the competing Radeon GPU architectures. We've seen the effect quite clearly in synthetic tessellation benchmarks. Few games have shown a similar effect, simply because they don't push enough polygons to strain the Radeons' geometry processing rates. However, with all of its geometric detail, the DX11 upgraded version of Crysis 2 now manages to push that envelope. The guys at Hardware.fr found that enabling tessellation dropped the frame rates on recent Radeons by 31-38%. The competing GeForces only suffered slowdowns of 17-21%Unnecessary geometric detail slows down all GPUs, of course, but it just so happens to have a much larger effect on DX11-capable AMD Radeons than it does on DX11-capable Nvidia GeForces. Thank you and good luck YOU Are the best Dude.Live long and prospect im w8 your mod every day im enter to your site the see it`s ready. :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
PS->Sorry for my english
He's trying to do a light tessellation setting, though it may not be perfect at release because he only has an Nvidia card. I'm no dev, but I still struggle to see what Crytek could have done to mess amd performance so bad :S
ReplyDeleteMan -o- Man. This is beautiful. Can't wait, Maldo.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, I have an all AMD setup and have not notice any of the tessellation issues. I guess I'm super lucky. I hope Maldo doesn't water the tessellation down to much. I love it and Crysis 2, even with the stock textures and all, looks beautiful and runs smooth. To bad to hear about all of the tessellation troubles.
ReplyDeleteMALDO, just one wish. Do not lower graphics to correct the SSDO bug, changing tesselated textures for parallax, tesselate just corners, etc.
ReplyDeleteLeave a option to put everything on max. THANK FOR YOUR WORK! The alga textures are 1000x better than crytek ones.
^ I can't make an option to put what I think is not necessary for rise IQ. More time, more requeriments and not more IQ is a no sense. In hidden borders surfaces, parallax has a more detailed effect than real tesselation.
ReplyDeletetimeline of release?
ReplyDeleteI need 10 or 11 hours of work more but I can't say how many days to fit those hours.
ReplyDeleteyour a good guy. I appreciate your work.
ReplyDeleteTo me it's strange the low repercussion in Crydev about Maldo's work. Until now, it looks by FAAAAAAAAAR the best MOD to Crysis 2.
ReplyDeleteEnvy reactions?! hehehe
Agree parallax textures got no perfomance hit on AMD and look muche better so this is the answer.
ReplyDeleteI cant wait to se the mod raedy and replay the missions again and again and again :))))
To the guy dying from an incurable disease, Maldo won't let you down. He never does. A game dev should hire him asap. He is a genius.
ReplyDeleteMaldo, just one question... Are you really a human being ? ^^
ReplyDeleteI am waiting for playing again Crysis 2 !!!
I read an SSDO technic paper and I think it got advantages toward SSAO. Not only for glitches but a better (more accurate) lightning management and rendering.
I think your workaround could be used as an optimization but I suggest you to keep the SSDO setting available in your utility.
Here is the paper : www.mpi-inf.mpg.de/~ritschel/Papers/SSDO.pdf
ReplyDeleteKDasNX
Fixed glitch in distant buildings with tesselation on and SSDO off. Now I can add SSDO as option in config tool. Is really strange how activating tesselation can create glitches in distant objects that are not tesselated. I'm testing a bit more and tesselation seems screen space as ssao or ssdo. So all of those that blame tesselation performance because is generating triangles that can't be seen are wrong. Probably displacement map tesselation is not perfect and maybe some objects was better not tesselated, but technically tesselation is a forward step from actual other implementations.
ReplyDeleteMaldo, ask those ATi ppl to send you an ATi dx11 card enough powerful to run your mod.
ReplyDeleteOnce you'll be finished, please, pass this card to any work colleague around...
3.0 release is near and I can't do more about it. But if after release it's possible to fix some more problems for amd gpus, I will make a specific version if whoever sent me a gpu.
ReplyDeleteMaldo, I think you are creating the perfect texture mod (even if nothing is perfect). Ultra beautiful, optimized, which takes consideration of both "weak" and "strong" configs, which includes several other mods (BlackFire's (i don't like it), Quality Mod (I hope Dynamic Depth of Field's transition will become smooth),...).
ReplyDeleteIt's true that SSDO effect is not very noticeable over SSAO and is above all for the discerning eye (and displacement mapping). But in my case, I still see a marked improvement on object's lighting (shadows) which is more realistic. I am used at looking for small details (I am a video encoder). Crytek didn't enable it for nothing but it's true it should have offered opportunity to disable it for those who wants performances without too much loss of quality.
No problem, check on SSDO in config tool and that's all. I have only between 3 and 5 fps difference between SSDO and SSAO and obviously SSDO is (in the subtle sense) a lot better. But I only consider loose 3 fps when I have 63 as minimum framerate. When I finish mod I put 2way or 3way sli into my rig and can you sure I will set on SSDO.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, this mod is not a game changer. I am ready to receive criticism in this regard, because I have focused on the details. Those who play facing forward until the end of the level, may not see a difference from vanilla. But I know where differences are, and I hope that some like you who know to look there.
Today??
ReplyDeleteWould love to play it this weekend
ReplyDeleteI'll be there for that and I am sure I will not the only one ;). Besides I think you worked so hard so that even the discerning eye will have difficulties to find bugs.
ReplyDeleteHonestly 30fps are enough for me. I am not a multiplayer addict.
I am now waiting, after your mod, gameplay mod to make it less casual (and more freedom friendly), like Crysis 1.
possibility of it being released today??? Please
ReplyDeleteto KuroTenshi
ReplyDelete30fps is way worse than 60, try lowering the details and see how the game would feel like then you will know
Maldo and Fakefactory should join together and fix that ugly deus ex game. I have seen first gen 360 games that look better.
ReplyDeleteJust release it. Nothing in life is perfect. AMD babies bay cry but just release a fix or a new version later on.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the obvious nvidia fanboy over me that a amd fix should be released later so the pack doesnt get delayed, although I have a 6970 pcs+ ^^ Maybe I sell it and get a gtx 570 beast edition with 2,5 gb vram ^^ always wanted to play cryostasis and batman arkam ^^
ReplyDeletewell im at home from work. Man it would be awesome to have this going soon
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
To Anonymous. I am playing several games at 60fps or more. I see the difference with 30fps. But for games which are not too nervous (contrary to Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition or multiplayer), I prefer details over FPS (30-40fps is still enjoying). That's all.
ReplyDeleteTo impatient people : calm down. Only a matter of days. As a developer, I know that I would be like Maldo : Release it once it's completely finished otherwise I would be uneasy.
Almost hitting 100.000 pageviews. Quite a large number for a texture mod. Goes to show how much interest there is in this mod. No wonder Maldo wants it to be as perfect and compatible as possible. You sir have the qualities of a great texture artist and developer!
ReplyDeleteI will play it even at 15 FPS (thanks to downsampling).
ReplyDeleteLow FPS weren't a problem either for Crysis 1, maybe you remember this? ;)
Since the gameplay of Crysis 2 is a bit lame I'd like at least to have a graphics demo.
And I agree: For ATI users there should be a hotfix after release if it takes too long.
Don't worry. Maldo makes optimizations for his mod but he doesn't wait for an amd card to release the mod ^^.
ReplyDeleteIf reduced tessellation is not enough, maybe there will be a hotfix. But both me and Maldo saw that it's not Crytek's fault and that Crytek's tessellation implementation is highly optimized.
Maldo removed tessellation when it was unusefull. Tessellation can't be achieved to part of models. When you load a map, every element of an area is loaded. For example, the model of the sea too, even if can't be viewed at certain angles. So when tessellation is enabled, the entire model of the sea is tessellated.
It's the same for every config.
Consequently, as Nvidia manages better DX11 on equivalent cards, there is a gap of performances when thoses effects are enabled.
To improve performance, the global level's loading and rendering should be redone from scratch by Crytek.
Hey is there a donate button?..would gladly donate for all of maldos hard work
ReplyDeleteOh down the bottom...I see now
ReplyDeleteI'll donate next month. I spent too much this month.
ReplyDeleteIts not cryteks fault and tesselation implementation is highly optimized ?? I dont think so.Even The Crytek employee Styve, better known as Xzero confessed that.I hope the translation link works.
ReplyDelete"Self-criticism: Tessellation in Crysis 2 poor, according to Crytek implemented - Cryengine 2 is a resource waster
The Crytek employee Styve, better known as Xzero, complains in our own forum on the implementation of tessellation in Crysis 2 and also in front of Cryengine 2 does not hold: The argues, constitutes a resource-destroyers, so will the console version of Crysis uses the third Cryengine."

maldo will this be done soon?
ReplyDeleteI WANT NOW!
ReplyDeleteMaldo says "The most probably date for release is september 25"
ReplyDeleteAnd we are the 25 :)
I can't find how to install this mod! I have v2 and have unzipped the folders and put the three folders 'materials' 'objects' and 'textures' in the gamecrysis2 folder but I am not seeing these textures. How to install this mod!! Instructions please.
ReplyDeleteMaldo is this the site when you finish i can download your mod?
ReplyDeleteTnx.
any news yet on this mod
ReplyDeleteWhen is it done?
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with maldo most the time, but in certain situations i do, @MaLDo "In hidden borders surfaces, parallax has a more detailed effect than real tesselation".
ReplyDeleteI ever think that POM is better in most situations than tessellation, tessellation is better in others, most for "retouch".
Perdon por el ingles asqueroso que uso maldo, un saludo xD
I am still naked and waiting....
ReplyDeleteI am still, '^^^ LOL'
ReplyDeleteI guess it isnt going to be released today
ReplyDeleteMaybe , Maldo wait the 100000 pageview for publish the mod :p
ReplyDeleteHe hit over 100000 views!
ReplyDeletePlease, It will be released when it is done.
ReplyDelete^^ REALLY ^^ I was unaware of this concept!!
ReplyDeleteWait until you get 1,000,000 views.
